It’s so hot ya’ll! Good thing we have a ceiling fan on our porch or we would simply melt into a puddle. I’ve got a smoothie recipe, and new book and a potato project update to share on today’s Porch Chatter post.

My favorite smoothie has been wonderful during these hot days. I’m adding more cucumber and watermelon to add refreshment as well as any berries I can grab from the garden. Summer seasonal fruits and veggies are my hands-down favorite.
I’m going through this book for the second time this summer. I work part-time in Children’s ministry at our church and Michelle Anthony is one of my favorite authors about leading parents and families. You can see that I bookmark important parts I want to re-visit with post-it tabs. They are removable and reusable. If you are a parent of any age of children, her book, Spiritual Parenting, is my all-time favorite parenting book.
Remember the fun potato project I did a few months ago? Well, today was harvest day for the few potatoes I planted in the fabric garden bucket. I think things went well considering I completely forgot about the bucket of sprouting potatoes.
It sat on the outside corner of my greenhouse and only got watered occasionally. I planted 3 organic sprouted potatoes I found in my potato basket but only 2 grew. The other potato rotted. But, no worries, the two that grew produced enough potatoes for a bowl of potato salad for tonight’s dinner! This weekend, I’ll harvest the other potatoes from our garden beds. I’m hoping they did as well as the ones in the fabric bucket.
This was just an experiment in using the fabric garden bucket and I think it worked well and would be great for gardening on a deck or patio. You would definitely want to make sure it was elevated on a garden trivet to keep any dampness off of a wooden deck. I purchased my fabric bag at a thrift store (pre-COVID) so I don’t know what brand it was but this one is the same size and seems like a similar product.
